the d5100 is an excellent entry to midlevel dslr. I've shot both the d5100 and the t3i, and find both to be almost equal. If u are new to dsrls' u cant go wrong with either camera. Don't worry about all the little features when deciding on which camera to buy. 90% of the time most people with shoot in Auto mode and never use most of the features the camera offers. Important to remember about any camera you buy...its not the camera that takes the pictures, its the operator. If you want to get better a taking pictures read about how to take better photos, or take some classes. Some of the best photos i've seen have come from a cell phone cameras or $100.00 point and shoots.
