This is actually my third SLR, but my first DSLR. My other cameras were pretty basic, the old Pentax K-1000, and a Minolta Maxxum 300si, so this Canon is quite an upgrade for me.
Pros:
Autofocus is pretty fast and accurate.
RAW + Jpeg
Recharging battery
Image stabilization
Menu is fairly simple
Ability to setup custom settings for easy access
Lots of settings, from basic "point and shoot" to more complex creative features
Good compatibility with Mac's
Cons:
Like most SLR's, it's big and somewhat heavy
Shooting in low light is not always easy, if the meter cannot assess the low light situation the shutter will not activate
Software it comes with is not very good. I bought Aperture to edit my RAW photos and removed the software this came with.
Video is choppy at 1080p
Overall this is a wonderful camera, and a huge upgrade over point and shoot or film based SLR's.
