Nikon D7000 16.2MP DX-Format CMOS Digital SLR with 3.0-Inch LCD and 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR ED Nikkor Lens,2.0 out of 5 stars Major back focusing issues, November 27, 2011

Nikon D7000 16.2MP DX-Format CMOS Digital SLR with 3.0-Inch LCD and 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR ED Nikkor LensLike many, I upgraded from the D80 to take benefits of all the awesome features of the D7000. But what the point of all of these, if you can't get a sharply focused picture even in the most straightforward conditions. I took hundreds of pictures last weekend at a wedding. Consistently got out of focus images. Even close range group shots, on a tripod, 1/250s speed, F/2.8, ISO 200 with a pro grade lens (Nikon 17-55mm, f 2.8) in single point focus came out of focus. Instead the wall a few feet behind was sharply in focus. I could go on and on with similar examples. Sure the D7000 has an autofocus fine tuning function. But even at the 20 out of 20 setting (0/20 setting is default) is not sufficient to fully correct the problem. The problem was consistent with all my Nikon lenses including 18-200mm, 50mm f 1.4 and 35mm f1.8 though different levels of corrections were needed for each. Interestingly I was able to get much sharper image using the LiveView AF while the same shot using the ViewFinder AF came soft or plain out of focus. Since the two modes use different AF technologies, this clearly indicates the TTL phase detection AF is not working properly.

I thought it was just bad luck so asked for a replacement which I got quickly within 3 days. The problem was even worse. Started doing online search about D7000 back focus problem. Clearly a lot of people are having the same issue. Very disappointing. [...]
