The camera is a nice size and lightweight.
The reason why i gave video quality 4 stars is because at 1080p it only records at 20fps and unless your recording something slow and not moving the camera alot it doesn't look all that great. But 720p mode still looks really good.
I love the design and the button placement is very good. The only button placement i don't like is the depth of field button.
The lens it comes with is awesome when it comes to shooting family photos, portraits or anything else that is close by but if something is lets say across the block from your house your not going to be able to zoom too close to it. I'm not saying this is a flaw I'm just trying to describe what you can do with the lens.
The battery life for me is amazing i took about 250-300 photos of my nephew and thats when the battery went to half full.(No flash, continuous shooting)
I bought a transcend SDHC 16gb memory card with it and i tested how fast it was by putting the camera on continuous shooting and it took about 75 photos before it started slowing down. To me that is way more than enough.
The little booklet it comes with will more than help you when it comes to understanding what setting does what and it even gives you little charts on the recommended settings for a situation. Another thing you can also do (what i did) is turn the dial to automatic and either remember the settings it has for your through the viewfinder or write them down then switch it to the "M" mode and put those settings in and mess with the settings and see what happens to the photo. But remember to do this from the same angle and lighting, etc.
But all in all the camera is a awesome first DSLR
Things i would recommend to buy with the camera:
Extra battery
UV filter (I bought more to protect he lens)
Cleaning kit
Tripod (This is a must in low light situations because you wont be able to hold the camera steady enough so it doesn't blur)
Carrying case (Try to get a big so later on if you get a extra lens or 2 you will have space for them)
HDMI wire (This you don't need to buy but i use it alot to show everyone the pictures i took instead of making them huddle around my laptop)
Memory card (Trust me on this one and get a class 10 card. Transcend sells good ones and they are cheap compared to alot of them. Also try to get atleast 2 just incase your memory card is full or it gets corrupted)
