Nikon D5100 16.2MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom LensOut of the box, I was having a lot of problems with the camera recognizing my Sandisk Extreme Pro SD cards. I could take three or four photos and then the camera would give me a 'No SD card inserted' message and stop working. This happened several times and I actually started packing everything up to return it. I'm glad that I went to Nikon's website first and found the firmware update...The update is easy to perform and completely takes care of the issue. In the SETUP MENU of your camera, scroll all the way down to FIRMWARE VERSION. If your camera reads 1.00 on the A and B lines, you'll want to perform the update.

With the firmware issue out of the way, I am really happy with the performance of this camera. The photo quality is nothing short of outstanding. The D5100 performs very well in low light situations and also has a high dynamic range to handle difficult high contrast situations.
