I've been using this camera for a few months now and am absolutely loving it. Having taken a few thousand images, I'm very happy with my results!
There's been a ton of reviews covering the great features of this camera so I thought I'd tackle an issue that seems to be rather contentious and has some people very needlessly upset - digital noise. The noise profile on the 7D is actually *very* good, especially for an 18mp camera!
Unless I heavily underexpose or use extremely high ISOs, noise is a non-issue - even looking at images at 100%.
At the pixel density of the sensor, I was actually expecting much worse when I first looked at my shots on my computer monitor at 100%. What modern sensors are running into are artifacts caused from the physics of photon behavior and the mechanics of photo sensor technology. The behavior of the universe we live in is causing these artifacts. For a higher signal-to-noise ratio, get more *signal*. More light hitting the sensor is the trick. Faster lenses and shooting in brighter settings help immensely. If you want relatively noise-free underexposed-looking images, say for sillouettes and such, yank your histogram to the left after the fact in photoshop or your favorite raster editing app.
We are now at resolutions far beyond that of the "grain" of chemical emulsions and film cameras...people should be grateful. Technology has allowed us access to wonders only dreamt of a few years ago but nobody's satisfied. ;)
